Licensing & Data Usage Requirements

Understanding what you can do with Intrinio data is just as important as understanding the data itself. Your subscription determines not only which datasets you can access, but also how you may use that data.

This article provides a high-level overview of Intrinio's licensing model. For complete legal terms, please refer to the Intrinio Terms of Service.

Licensing Depends on Your Subscription

Intrinio offers several subscription plans designed for different use cases. The primary distinction between plans is not simply the data you receive—it is also the rights granted to use that data.

Individual Plan

The Individual Plan is intended for personal or internal use by a single user.

With an Individual subscription, you may:

  • Build personal projects
  • Conduct financial research
  • Analyze markets
  • Develop internal tools for your own use

You may not:

  • Display Intrinio data in a customer-facing application
  • Redistribute or resell Intrinio data
  • Share your API credentials or subscription with others
  • Use the data commercially on behalf of a business

Startup Plan

The Startup Plan is designed for companies building commercial applications.

With a Startup subscription, you may:

  • Use Intrinio data in a commercial product
  • Display data to your application's users
  • Build SaaS platforms and fintech products
  • Use the data internally across your business

The Startup Plan does not permit:

  • Reselling or redistributing raw Intrinio data
  • Providing Intrinio data as a standalone data service
  • White-labeling Intrinio's raw datasets
  • Licensing Intrinio data to third parties

If your business model involves redistributing raw market data or creating a data resale product, please contact our Enterprise team.

Enterprise & Enterprise Custom

Enterprise licensing is intended for organizations with specialized licensing, compliance, or support requirements.

Enterprise plans may be appropriate when you require:

  • Raw exchange-sourced real-time market data
  • Redistribution or resale rights
  • White-label licensing
  • Custom licensing agreements
  • Premium or specialized datasets
  • Exchange approvals
  • Dedicated support or SLAs
  • Custom rate limits or enterprise architecture support

If you're unsure whether your use case requires Enterprise licensing, our team can help determine the appropriate solution.

Display vs. Redistribution

A common question is the difference between displaying data and redistributing data.

Display

Displaying data means presenting Intrinio-powered information within your own application or website as part of the user experience.

Examples include:

  • Stock quote pages
  • Financial dashboards
  • Portfolio trackers
  • Company profile pages
  • Investment research tools

Commercial display is supported under the Startup Plan, subject to the applicable license.

Redistribution

Redistribution means making the underlying data available for others to consume independently.

Examples include:

  • Selling downloadable datasets
  • Offering an API that returns Intrinio data
  • Exporting raw market data to customers
  • Republishing Intrinio datasets for third parties

Redistribution generally requires Enterprise licensing and may also require exchange approvals depending on the dataset.

Can I Build a Commercial Product?

Yes.

Many customers build commercial fintech applications using Intrinio.

The Startup Plan is specifically designed for companies launching commercial software products that display Intrinio data to end users while keeping the underlying data within the application.

Can I Resell Intrinio Data?

No.

Self-service plans do not include the right to resell or redistribute raw Intrinio data.

If your business model involves licensing, syndicating, exporting, or reselling market data, please contact Intrinio's Enterprise team to discuss available licensing options.

Exchange Rules

Some datasets are governed by stock exchanges and other data licensors.

These providers may require:

  • Additional agreements
  • Exchange approvals
  • Usage reporting
  • End-user reporting
  • Additional licensing fees

If your application requires exchange-controlled raw real-time market data, our Enterprise team can help guide you through the approval process.

AI & Machine Learning

Unless otherwise restricted by a specific dataset or third-party license, customers may use Intrinio data within applications, analytics workflows, and AI-powered software in accordance with the rights granted under their subscription and the Intrinio Terms of Service.

If you intend to train foundation models, redistribute model outputs containing protected data, or provide AI services built directly on raw financial datasets, please contact Intrinio to discuss your intended use.
