We offer two ways to access our real time prices:

  • Snap quotes via a pull Web API
  • Streaming prices via a push WebSocket connection

THE WEB API

Via our Web API, you request the real time price for given securities, resulting in a real time snap quote for 1 or more securities at a given point in time. As such, our plans for Web API access are tiered by either how many daily calls you're allowed to make per day or by how many snap quotes you're permitted per minute, depending on the exchange.

An example call is below, returning the last price, size and timestamp for three securities from the IEX exchange:

WHICH REAL-TIME FEEDS UTILIZE THE REST API?

  • IEX Real-Time Stock Prices via the US Stock Prices data feed The first paid plan for that feed gives you access to 5,000 daily requests. The highest default plan gives you 100,000 daily requests, but we can create custom plans if you need them.
  • Nasdaq Basic Real-Time Prices The first paid plan on this feed gives you 100 ticker snap quotes per minute. We offer separate add-on plans to increase that limit, up to a max of 1,000 ticker snap quotes per minute.
  • TMX QuantumFeed® and TSX Venture Level 1 The first paid plan on this feed gives you 100 ticker snap quotes per minute. We offer separate add-on plans to increase that limit, up to a max of 1,000 ticker snap quotes per minute.

WEBSOCKETS

Via a WebSocket connection, you do not request a snap quote like the Web API, but instead connect to individual securities and, for as long as you're connected, are pushed live prices for those securities from the exchange for which you are subscribed. As such, you are not limited by number of requests like the Web API, but instead by the number of securities you are allowed to connect to at one time, aka the number of securities you're allowed to stream prices for at the same time. For an example of our WebSocket for the IEX exchange specifically, check out the video below.
